Preparing MIPACE for a busy family day out

A simple pre-trip review for attractions, travel, crowded places and unfamiliar routines.

MIPACE Knowledge Hub

A day out should not feel like a risk assessment. A short check before leaving can make sure the information available through MIPACE reflects the day ahead and gives somebody an appropriate way to help if plans go wrong.

Check the trusted contacts

Confirm that the public profile shows a contact who will be available during the trip. If one parent or carer will be driving, working or out of signal, consider whether another suitable contact should be prioritised. Check the number rather than assuming it is current.

Think about the setting

Crowds, noise, queues, unfamiliar food, transport and disrupted routines can affect people differently. If a particular communication approach or calming strategy would help in that setting, make the wording clear. Do not add private detail simply because the day feels unusual.

Check the physical access point

Make sure the relevant device has already been activated in My MIPACE and is attached or carried appropriately. A newly received device is assigned to the customer’s account but remains pending until the customer activates it under Devices. Test it before leaving rather than discovering the status during the outing.

Agree what it is for

Where appropriate, explain to the child or family member what the device does and what it does not do. It opens selected information; it is not live tracking and it does not summon help automatically. Agree the normal family plan for becoming separated and use MIPACE as one part of it.

Please note: MIPACE supports access to information. It does not provide medical advice, replace professional assessment, emergency services, safeguarding procedures or the safety arrangements appropriate to an activity or setting.
