For organisations considering MIPACE, one principle needs to be clear from the beginning: the organisation can manage the devices it provides and the structure around them, but the individual or parent controls the personal profile.
Two kinds of responsibility
The organisation may purchase and allocate devices, organise locations or groups and decide how devices fit its operating procedures. The individual account holder or parent manages the profile, chooses what is public and approves the relevant connection. These responsibilities complement each other without becoming the same thing.
Why the distinction matters
A school, club, employer or care provider should not need to own a person’s private account simply to provide an access device. Separating device management from profile control supports clearer expectations and reduces unnecessary duplication of personal information.
Build it into onboarding
Explain the model before a device is issued. Say what the organisation can see and manage, what the account holder must approve, where the device will be used and what happens if it is returned, replaced or reported lost. Provide a named contact for process questions.
MIPACE complements existing duties
The platform does not replace safeguarding, health and safety, emergency, consent or record-keeping procedures. Organisations should decide how MIPACE fits their responsibilities and document that decision appropriately for their setting.
Please note: MIPACE supports access to information. It does not provide medical advice, replace professional assessment, emergency services, safeguarding procedures or the safety arrangements appropriate to an activity or setting.
